E.ON initiative 'helps elderly save on energy costs'
A joint initiative between energy supplier E.ON and charity Age Concern is helping the elderly save money on their energy bills.
The EnergyRight scheme has been created to help older consumers use energy more efficiently in their homes and involves volunteers visiting the homes of the elderly to provide advice on how they can control their energy use.
After a visit, people can also become eligible for another scheme which offers older homeowners free and discounted insulation and other benefits.
Discussing the scheme, E.ON's community relations manager Jane Branscombe encouraged people to check their energy efficiency.
"I'd encourage older people living in the area to get in touch with Age Concern and see how they might be able to benefit from the EnergyRight service, whether it's just having a home energy check or finding out if you're missing out on any state benefits or eligible for free or discounted insulation," she explained.
British Gas recently launched a similar scheme with Help the Aged, which was created to put pressure on the government to reduce fuel poverty in the UK.
